Foreigners with work visas issued by the Chinese Embassy who work in China, receive wages and pay income tax to China’s tax authorities can apply for real-name mobile phones on the strength of their passports, open accounts with the information and passports provided by the employer, and apply for a bank debit card. With these two, you can bind a bank card in Wechat’s wallet and open WeChat Pay.

In addition, Tencent said that under the guidance of relevant policies, it will explore cooperation with the five major international card organizations Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Global Network and JCB to support the binding of international credit cards opened abroad to WeChat Pay.

In other words, for people who have lived overseas for a long time and do not have Chinese debit / credit cards, they can now use American credit cards to bind directly and activate WeChat Pay function.

Certificates certified by overseas users:

Passports, Hong Kong and Macao Home visit permits, Taiwan compatriots’ permits, Hong Kong and Macao residents’ residence permits and Taiwan residents’ residence permits open savings cards and credit cards, and after binding, WeChat Pay can use online and offline multi-scene consumption.

WeChat Pay can be easily opened in a few simple steps.

Wechat Pay Allows Users to Bind Overseas Credit Cards

Starting around January 2018, Tencent will allow users to bind overseas Visa, Mastercard or JCB credit cards, which can only be used for consumer payments, Tencent said in a statement today. This also means that Tencent will provide users with two kinds of mobile payment options.

The first is users who use mainland bank cards. At present, WeChat Pay and Tenpay support the binding of savings cards and credit cards for mainland residents’ identity cards, passports, Hong Kong and Macao Home visit permits, and Taiwan compatriots’ certificates, covering as many as 71 banks. With any of the above documents and using the bank card of the bank within the scope of support, you can easily open WeChat Pay for online and offline consumption.

The other is users who use non-mainland bank cards. Users who use non-mainland bank cards can bind Visa, Mastercard or JCB credit cards to use WeChat Pay, but for the time being, they only support consumption scenarios, including Wechat wallet Jiugong merchants and cooperative brands in e-commerce, O2O, travel, travel and other fields.

According to the report “Wechat Life observation of Foreign users in China” released by Wechat last year, the proportion of foreign users in China using WeChat Pay is as high as 64.4%. Transportation, group takeout, catering, convenience stores, supermarkets and online shopping supermarkets are the six scenes where they use WeChat Pay most frequently.

Wechat Can Bind the American Credit Card

Based on the fact that most overseas users are international credit card holders, Tencent recently announced that it will explore cooperation with five major international card organizations: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Global Network and JCB, to support the binding of international credit cards to WeChat Pay, so as to provide a convenient mobile payment experience for foreigners in China.

Alipay also said publicly that foreign tourists can use their foreign mobile phone numbers to register with Alipay International Edition in the mainland, and foreign tourists can recharge 2000 yuan to Alipay International Edition within 90 days.

The survey found that in the past, although China Mobile payment was famous all over the world, when foreigners travel to China, the international card in their wallet does not support binding Alipay Wechat, so it is not realistic to go to the bank to apply for a Bank of China card. As a result, you can’t experience the convenient dividend of China Mobile payment.

After this multi-party cooperation, it can be described as a win-win situation among the three parties. Foreigners coming to China have felt and experienced the convenience and security of paperless mobile payment in China; several major card organizations have made new breakthroughs in foreign currency card receipt business; Alipay Wechat business has been further developed in the process of internationalization.

“We are very happy and excited to be able to use WeChat Pay for overseas cardholders when traveling in mainland China with Tencent.” Yu Xueli, president of Visa Greater China, said.

Chinese returning home must have experienced the convenience of cashless transactions in China.

Whether using Alipay or WeChat Pay, it is now very convenient in China, and even merchants in some big cities in the United States support these payment methods.

In other words, for people who have lived overseas for a long time and do not have Chinese debit / credit cards, they can now use American credit cards to bind directly and activate WeChat Pay function.

Passports, Hong Kong and Macao Home visit permits, Taiwan compatriots’ permits, Hong Kong and Macao residents’ residence permits and Taiwan residents’ residence permits open savings cards and credit cards, and after binding, WeChat Pay can use online and offline multi-scene consumption.
